I'm Jay, a Product Designer based in Toronto.

  BRIEF ABOUT JAY

I'm a data-driven and rationale-dependent Product Designer. I studied Visual Communication Design at Konkuk University and later focused on UI/UX design at Humber College.

I began my product design career at STACK, a digital banking company with the mission to "Disrupt the traditional banks". As an early team member, I had the opportunity to learn the end-to-end design process by working closely with our in-house development team. I shipped and optimized various app features, including peer-to-peer payments, round-up, gamification referral program, financial IQ, bill pay, bill split, and more.

After STACK was acquired by Credit Sesame, a credit and loan company based in San Francisco, I started working for Credit Sesame's digital banking service, Sesame Cash. Leveraging my experience at STACK, our team successfully launched Sesame Cash in the USA, where I worked on various features such as cash back offers, payroll switch, and instant deposit. I also built and maintained the Design System. Later, I worked on Sesame Premium, the company's paid subscription model.

  WHY UI/UX?

My passion for design was shaped by my upbringing and education. I was raised and educated by an architect father and potter mother, who encouraged me to appreciate aesthetics and the reasoning of things in the world. During my university studies, I was drawn to the logical and analytical aspects of visual design, which sometimes hindered me from creating things. However, when I discovered UI/UX design, I was thrilled to find a discipline that allowed me to combine aesthetics with my curiosity for data-driven problem-solving. Since then, I have been relentlessly pursuing a career in UI/UX design, and I find immense joy in every aspect of the process.

  BRIEF ABOUT JAY

I studied Visual Communication Designs at Konkuk University where I learned a creative process of the visual arts and technology to communicate ideas. After that, I went to Humber College and studied Multimedia Design and Development where I learned more with a focus on UI/UX Design.

As a data-driven and rationale-dependent Product Designer, I started my product design career at a digital banking company named STACK. With the slogan "Disrupt the traditional banks", our team created and launched the STACK mobile app in Canada. I feel really lucky that I joined the company at a very early stage and got to learn the end-to-end design process, including user research, information architecture, usability testing, implementation guidance, etc. Working very closely with an in-house development team, I shipped and optimized a lot of app features, such as peer-to-peer payments, round-up, gamification referral program, financial IQ, bill pay, bill split, etc.

As the STACK business grew hugely, Credit Sesame, which is a credit and loan company based in San Francisco, acquired STACK and I started working for a digital banking service of Credit Sesame, called Sesame Cash. Leveraging the experience and the knowledge I gained at STACK, our team successfully launched Sesame Cash in the USA. I worked on a lot of Sesame Cash features, such as cash back offers, payroll switch, instant deposit, etc, as well as building & maintaining Design System & the Figma Component Library. After that, I worked for Sesame Premium, which is a paid subscription model that generates the most revenue for the company. I focused on optimizing the UI/UX, collaborating with the research team and the data team using Mixpanel, Optimizely, etc.

  WHY UI/UX?

Since I was young, I have always been inquisitive about the logics and rationales behind how things work. During my university studies, I tended to pay attention to the logical part of visual design, which sometimes even hindered me from continuing to create visual products. I always felt like something was missing. However, ever since I encountered UI/UX Design, I have been thrilled with the fact that I "should" design by inquiring, analyzing, and testing based on data, which was what I felt like missing. From that time, my passion has always been UI/UX design and I have been enjoying it immensely.
